Cannabis Education Tips to Roll the Perfect JointMay 10, 2023
Joint rolling can be harder than it looks. Here are some tips to roll the perfect joint. Remember that learning how to roll a joint takes time, so keep practicing, and soon you’ll feel like a pro.
Know Your Rolling Paper
Rolling papers come in various materials, including tree pulp, hemp, rice, and flax, as well as multiple sizes. Some papers are bleached or unbleached, or contain additives like charcoal for faster burning. Check the label before buying, and try out a few different varieties to get to know what you like best. Standard-size rolling papers are 1¼ inches wide and 3 inches long. If you prefer to go big, you can choose king-size rolling papers.
Use the Right Amount of Bud
A common problem people have when they first start learning how to roll joints is overfilling them. You probably need less flower in your joint than you think at first. Start with about ½ gram, and once joint rolling becomes second nature, you can increase the amount if you like.
Use a Crutch
The crutch—also called the filter—is a small tip piece on one end of a joint which gives the joint support and provides a spot for you to hold while you smoke. Many rolling papers come with convenient, premade crutches that you just roll up, but you can also make your own using stiff paper. For best results, put a few accordion folds in your crutch before rolling it up into a cylinder.
Fold and Fill
Next, fold your rolling paper in half lengthwise, then unfold it. This creates a long crease down the middle. Place your crutch at one end of the paper in line with the crease, then add your ground flower to the joint, folding at the crease slightly, so the flower doesn’t spill out. Once you’ve added your bud, you can start to shape the joint.
Roll it Up
With your bud and crutch in place, it’s time to start rolling your joint. Pinch the rolling paper with your fingertips and roll it back and forth to shape the joint into a long cone shape. Tuck the unglued side of the rolling paper between the joint and the other side of the rolling paper.
All that’s left to do is seal up your joint. Firmly roll your joint towards the glued end of the rolling paper. Moisten the end of the rolling paper (most people do this by licking it, like a stamp) to activate the glue, then roll the joint all the way to the end of the rolling paper. Now, you should have a joint with a crutch at the skinnier end and the wider end should be open. You can choose to pack the open end with a little more ground flower if you like, and then finish by twisting the open end of the paper to seal the whole thing off.
Smoke and enjoy!
Rolling a joint can be a satisfying part of the process, but if you ever just want something with grab-and-go convenience, pre-rolls are a great option. Check out our selection of pre-rolled joints today.
